Global Plug Guide

Why You Need This

Different countries use different outlet shapes—give your lamp the wrong one and it simply won’t shine. Use this quick-reference to match your Zeenova pieces (and every other device) to sockets around the world, so you can illuminate any space with confidence.

1. Plug Anatomy at a Glance

Plug Type Pin Shape Where You'll Find It Need-to-Know
Type A Two flat pins, no ground USA, Canada, Mexico, Japan 100-127 V. Ungrounded—fine for low-draw gear.
Type B Two flat pins + round ground USA, Canada, Mexico 100-127 V. Ground pin adds safety for higher-watt fixtures.
Type C Two round pins, no ground Most of Europe*, South America, Asia The classic “Europlug.” 220-240 V. Slim—fits recessed sockets.
Type D Three large round pins India, South Africa 220-240 V. Older British heritage plug—chunky but common.
Type E Two round pins + female ground slot France, Belgium, Poland, Slovakia 220-240 V. Mates with Type F thanks to shared pin spacing.
Type F Two round pins + side ground clips Germany, Spain, Netherlands, Russia 220-240 V. Also called “Schuko.” Accepts Type C & E plugs.
Type G Three rectangular pins UK, Ireland, Hong Kong, Malaysia 220-250 V. Built-in fuse; beefiest prongs on the planet.
Type I Two slanted flat pins (+ optional ground) Australia, New Zealand, China, Argentina 220-240 V. Slightly angled blades; check for ground when needed.

*The UK and Ireland use Type G, not Type C.

2. Voltage & Frequency Snapshot

  • North America120 V, 60 Hz (Types A/B)
  • Most of Europe & Australasia230 V, 50 Hz (Types C/E/F/G/I)

Voltage matters as much as plug shape. If your fixture isn’t marked "100-240 V, 50/60 Hz," you’ll need a step-up or step-down transformer when crossing these zones. (See our Voltage Guide for the full rundown.)

3. Adapter Playbook—Fast Scenarios

Origin → Destination Adapter Shape Voltage Action
US/Canada → Europe Type A/B → Type C/F Add a step-up transformer unless your device is dual-voltage.
Europe → UK Type C/F → Type G No transformer needed if your gear already runs 220-240 V.
Australia → North America Type I → Type A/B Use a step-down transformer (230 → 120 V) unless dual-voltage.

Zeenova Tip
A quality universal travel adapter handles the shape; a transformer changes the juice. Never confuse the two.

4. Adapting to Different Plug Types

If you are traveling or relocating, it’s advisable to carry a universal travel adapter that allows you to connect your device to different types of sockets. A plug adapter modifies the physical shape of the plug, but it does not convert voltage—so make sure your device can handle the voltage used in the destination country.

  1. Check the Driver Label – Most of our fixtures ship dual-voltage, but verify on the spec sheet.
  2. Select the Right Plug Kit – At the product pages, choose your destination plug; we’ll pre-fit or include the adapter if applicable.
